nuoveXT Icon Set for OS X
If you happen to run KDE as your desktop environment, http://www.kde-look.org is a great resource for cool icons, wallpapers, themes, windows decorations, and other KDE improvements. Even if you don’t use KDE (as is the case for me) because you are a Windows or OS X user there is still plenty of reason to poke around the site. For starters, most of the content there is licensed either under the GPL or Creative Commons License – meaning you have the freedom to adopt the content for other uses as long as you adhere to the rules.
I stumbled across an icon set called nuoveXT by Alexandre Moore. He has made it available in both Gnome and KDE flavors and it is extremely well done. I really liked it and wondered if I could use this set to change up the standard OS X icons. With some help from CandyBar, I was able to quickly do just that by using the 128×128 PNG files included in the nuoveXT distribution. I am posting the resulting iContainers here should other users wish to do the same thing. And in the spirit of the GPL (under with the original nuoveXT set is licensed), I’m providing a link to Alexandre’s original set as well as original PSDs for any of the icons I had to modify to play well with the standard OS X system set. Click on the thumbnail to the right for a screenshot of the icons in action. Have fun!
