Various Virtualization Posts
I’ve been off the grid for the last three days. Some interesting virtualization-related things to note:
- How to install Longhorn Reloaded using VMWare Fusion in OSX – a complete walkthrough: This tutorial is for anyone with an Intel based Mac who would like to install Longhorn Reloaded, and has about an hour to kill (not including the time it takes to download Longhorn Reloaded). Via DABCC
- Parallels Announces Parallels Desktop for Mac v3.0: Via TUAW
- Gilles Vollant has a beta of WinImage v8 which includes VMDK support: http://www.winimage.com/beta.htm
- Margie Semilof at SearchWinIT has an interesting post about “Why having fewer features in Viridian may not matter”. The point that “And it still remains to be seen whether Microsoft will suffer in the market for Viridian’s lateness because customers will still be buying Windows to run on VMware virtual machines anyway.” is very astute. My contention from the beginning has been that incorporating virtualization technology into the underlying OS and packaging it that way provides no incentives to the product teams to do extraordinary things to win over customers and their budget dollars. It just becomes another feature and ships for free with every version of Windows.
